Concept

Ballpoint Pen (Myeollyugwan) is a smooth-writing water-based ballpoint pen with a spinning head - simply turn the “hat” with your fingers while writing and it will rotate.

Features

In the Joseon Dynasty, the myeonbok (ceremonial robe) and myeollyugwan (coronet) were the king’s most formal attire, worn on important occasions such as coronations, ancestral rites at the Jongmyo Shrine, and the welcoming of a queen.

The myeollyugwan is a headdress composed of a flat board (myeon) and strings of beads (ryu) hanging from it. The rows of beads that drape in front and back were said to shield the king’s vision so that he would not lay eyes upon evil.

This pen’s design was handcrafted, with each bead individually threaded, inspired by King Sunjong’s royal portrait and myeollyugwan artifacts from the National Folk Museum.
